When I first met my husband, we talked a lot about how he wanted to be a police officer someday. I’ll be honest, I had never thought I’d grow up to be a LEO wife. When we talked about it, it was initially really exciting. Like, woah! He wants to be someone who stops crime and saves people.
Basically, he wants to be Superman.
When my husband first got hired as a deputy, I was super excited. He had wanted to do it for years, I had helped him work toward this goal for what felt like forever, and I couldn’t believe it was finally coming to fruition.
When I started searching for resources online, however, I realized they were ridiculously sparse. There just wasn’t much out there on how to live a happy life as a police wife.
The stuff I could find made the life ahead of us sound pretty bleak. I get it: it’s hard, scary, and the divorce rate is really high. We certainly had our moments when he worked in the jail.
But there’s so much more I wish I’d known.
I struggled so much in as a new LEO wife, but through it, I learned lessons on how to have a happy life and marriage in the midst of struggles. In the midst of fear. When you feel lonely, overwhelmed, unappreciated, and like nobody understands what you’re going through. When life feels unfair.
And I’ve only learned that lesson more fully over the past few years.
Even though my husband is currently not in law enforcement, God put this blog on my heart. Because frankly, I don’t want anybody else to have to feel alone.
I want you to know that you can be happy, even when your life is chaotic.
I want you to know that even when things seem lousy, there’s a lot of good to be found. Always.
I want you to know that having a happy marriage and being married to a police officer aren’t mutually exclusive. Not at all.
There’s a lot of happiness to be found – and I want to help you find it.
Because truly, God has happiness in store for you, no matter what your present struggles look like. I can tell you that with 100% certainty, because I’ve been through the fire, too.
Stay strong, and know I’m here if you need me 🙂
